Eating for two(caution)!

Mums who eat too much during pregnancy may be increasing the risks of low IQ, eating disorders and psychosis in children a new report has found.

Increased Risks

Giving into the urge of pregnancy cravings can affect the health of an unborn child as the maternal weight influences child development.
With more than one in six women classed as obese within just three months of becoming pregnant, and many more carrying too much weight later in pregnancy, the risk on babies is increasing.
The research, published in international journal Obesity Reviews, examined the impact of maternal weight on child development across the world.

ADD and low IQ

It found that the risks were increased in early years, with children suffering a higher chance of attention deficit disorder and a lower than average IQ.
Increased risks continued through to adolescence with eating disorders more likely and chances of schizophrenia increased in adulthood.
